FASHION MISTAKES
1- PROPORTIONS
Balancing all the proportions in your outfit is such an important styling rule. You have to make everything look even for a better overall composition.
If you are not familiarized with these concepts, we will traduce them.
Basically, the key aspect when it comes to balancing proportions is making sure you are using combinations of both looser and tight items.
Meaning, if you are using an oversized jacket you should pair it with tighter-fit pants/jeans to make it more flattering to your figure. On the other hand, if you are using a tight top, then you opt for a culotte, wide-leg, or mom pants/trousers.
Another great example of balancing proportions is, for example when you want to use a low-rise style of bottoms. In that case, you shouldn’t opt for a crop top. That will leave a massive gap between your top and your bottoms which is not the most flattering fit. Only if you want to recreate an early 2000’s look.
KEEP IN MIND- Despite what we just stated, these are not mandatory rules they should always be adapted to the pieces in question. You should wear whatever you feel like it. However, 90% of the time this rule was found the most flattering.
Here is an example of a well-balanced outfit from Hanna IG:
2- PATTERNS
We love to play with patterns and print pieces. However, sometimes people get carried away and the outfit looks messy and too much.
When styling patterns you should be careful. Don’t overdo it. Pick 1 or 2 print items and style them. Don’t do too much print in an outfit, it looks tacky the majority of the time.
For example -If you choose a printed dress opt for a minimal shoe. Or if you want to use a bold printed coat don’t use more print in the outfit.
Is all about the balance.
Here is an example of a well-executed print outfit from Romee IG:
3- BAD FABRICS
Not investing in well-made pieces that have good fabrics is another fashion mistake that most people make.
The thing is, a good fabric item doesn’t imply that you spend a lot of money on it. We’ve talked about a lot of ‘low cost’ brands that do super high-quality items!
By investing in thick fabrics, nice silky materials, and well-made pieces you will look 100% better. The quality will reflect on the fit of the item and will determine if you look cheap or put together.
Here is an example of a stunning yet simple outfit from Josefine IG, where you can see that the items are for sure high-quality:
4- TOO BAGGY OR TOO TIGHT
Wearing items that aren’t your exact size is often a fashion mistake. Obviously, by this, we don’t mean those pieces that are meant to be worn oversized.
However, sometimes pieces don’t fit as nicely when they are not our size.
You should opt for good fits that suit you and are well-tailored.
5- UN-TUCKED TOPS
We can all agree that tucking your tops is an essential step when styling an outfit. It makes everything look a lot more flattering accentuating your figure in a really nice and balanced way.
For that reason, un-tucking your tops is considered a fashion mistake. Style-wise is definitely a flaw. Your outfit will look incomplete and without any shape.
It is a shame when people have such cute pieces on and then skip this super important step. We highly recommend you to try it from now on.
KEEP IN MIND- Despite what we just stated, these are not mandatory rules they should always be adapted to the pieces in question. You should wear whatever you feel like it. However, 90% of the time this rule was found the most flattering.
Here is an example of an outfit from Elsa IG where the tucked top makes it look so much better:
6- UNCOMFORTABLE FITS
This fashion mistake is in line with the ‘too baggy or too tight’ concept that we talked about previously in this post. For a long time, people have associated fashion with discomfort. That might have been a thing in the older eras. However, it is not something that we relate to.
Fashion is a form of expression and despite those tips and tricks that we have talked about in this post, it should be free. You should not be worried about fitting into a piece. Clothes are made for us. Not the other way around.
Not only do 10 out 10 of the times people do not look good with uncomfortable fits but they also don’t benefit you in any way. Reason for being another fashion mistake.
You should feel comfortable not only in your skin but also fashion-wise.
7- LACK OF ACCESSORIES
Another common fashion mistake is the lack of accessorizing. Sometimes we are in a rush and forget to accessorize leaving the outfit incomplete.
Accessories are so important not only to elevate an outfit but also to make it a lot more interesting and personalized.
We are big fans of accessories and almost never leave the house without at least our bag and earrings.
Here is an example of an outfit from Aylin IG where the accessories definitely play a big part in elevating the outfit:
8- COLOR MATCHING
Last but definitely not least, another big fashion mistake is not being able to correctly match colors. Some colors just don’t go together.
Although the line that defines what is correct in fashion and what is wrong is pretty transparent, we feel like some colors look so much better together than others.
